[htdig] help

I have just got a copy of the software.....and compiled it....

could anyone please help me indoing out the following...

I am setting up a web site and I want to use ht-dig as a search engine....

I am a novice in computers....could any good mortal take the trouble of telling me how to go about it step by step.....plz do reply as if u are telling a layman as to what he should do step-by -step...
