In version 1.7.1 Text tables do not have the same crash recovery features of
other tables and should not be used for saving critical data. There are also
other problems which are currently being resolved. For the time being, text
tables seem to be usable in the following circumstances:

data is read-only, large tables are supported
data set is relatively small, you must test your app thoroughly at shutdown
etc.

I've noticed a couple questions on the list about
this, but no definitive answer.

In the doco for HSQLDB it mentions that ACID
transactions are a feature to be added approximately
June 2002.

How safe is HSQLDB with regard to transactions and
file integrity when using TEXT tables ?

Is it at all possible that a power failure or JVM
crash at some point could mess up the database storage
file?  Or is it possible, but just unlikely?
