What about grouping all the string commands into one, so we have

string replace str ...
string upcase str
string index str pos
string whatever args ...

This reduces the number of commands and does not clobber the namespace 
and it reduces the number of instances of the command class.
And yes, I deem the codebase small enough to accept the changes.
