I plugged the gadget cable into a different XP system, and here the device is seen (though there isn't an enumeration in the USB section, which I don't understand, but the RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget device is seen). XP wants to install the driver for this, but is unable to locate it for me. Any pointers on getting this to connect? On my serial link to the gumstix, I periodically have this message displayed: "irq(58) unbalanced from c00e7140". Anyone else seeing that? -----Original Message----- From: gum...@li... Subject: [SPAM] - [Gumstix-users] USB Network access, Kernel upgrading, misc. getting started - Email found in subject I just received my Gumstix and am now trying to learn how to manipulate it so I can do what I need to with this environment. I haven't had the best of luck finding answers on the gumstix.com website. My complete environment: Host: Windows XP Development host: Fedora Core 2 within VMWare on the XP system Out of the box, I am unable to get the USB ethernet gadget to work. From what I've read, I think this is to be expected with an XP host. I've downloaded the tools and built the latest kernel, 2.6.9-rc1-gumstix. 1) What is the proper way to burn this kernel into flash to make it permanent? I've got the kernel (uImage) on my mmc card, and have been able to boot into it through the U-Boot interface. I'm hesitant to experiment on my own because I don't want to turn my gumstix into a small brick ;) 2) With the 2.6.9-rc1 kernel booted, I am still unable to see the network connection working. On the XP box it's plugged into, I cannot see any device on the USB device manager. I suspect that until I reach that point, I'm not going to see any ethernet gadget connectivity, is this correct? 3) I don't have DHCP on my network; is there a preferred place on the gumstix to set the static configuration? I am sure I'll have more questions as I progress. Thank you for any advice! ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: YOU BE THE JUDGE.
