Do you get an LED light on the Tobi board next to the USB console connector? If you watch log on your workstation do you'll see which serial port to use. For example on Ubuntu when plugging in the Tobi board console connection scott@hex:~$ tail -f /var/log/syslog Jan 14 09:02:38 hex kernel: [11985.448132] usb 4-2: new full-speed USB device number 5 using ohci_hcd Jan 14 09:02:38 hex mtp-probe: checking bus 4, device 5: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:12.0/usb4/4-2" Jan 14 09:02:38 hex kernel: [11985.632408] ftdi_sio 4-2:1.0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter detected Jan 14 09:02:38 hex kernel: [11985.632512] usb 4-2: Detected FT232RL Jan 14 09:02:38 hex kernel: [11985.632519] usb 4-2: Number of endpoints 2 Jan 14 09:02:38 hex kernel: [11985.632524] usb 4-2: Endpoint 1 MaxPacketSize 64 Jan 14 09:02:38 hex kernel: [11985.632529] usb 4-2: Endpoint 2 MaxPacketSize 64 Jan 14 09:02:38 hex kernel: [11985.632534] usb 4-2: Setting MaxPacketSize 64 Jan 14 09:02:38 hex mtp-probe: bus: 4, device: 5 was not an MTP device Jan 14 09:02:38 hex kernel: [11985.636475] usb 4-2: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0 Make sure you belong to the appropriate group to open the device. It's 'dialout' on Ubuntu. scott@hex:~$ ls -l /dev/ttyUSB0 crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 0 Jan 14 09:02 /dev/ttyUSB0 scott@hex:~$ grep dialout /etc/group dialout:x:20:scott For kermit a ~/.mykermrc file like this might be useful. Change the set line device as appropriate. scott@hex:~$ cat ~/.mykermrc set line /dev/ttyUSB0 set flow-control none set carrier-watch off set parity none set stop-bits 1 set speed 115200 connect Then you can just type kermit at the prompt. -- View this message in context: http://gumstix.8.n6.nabble.com/Problems-connecting-to-Tobi-expansion-board-using-a-serial-monitor-tp4966434p4966441.html Sent from the Gumstix mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |
