[Gumstix-users] Verdex-Pro: i2c/smbus help

Hello all,
I'm having some difficulty with i2c-tools and /dev/i2c-0 on the verdex 
pro - any input on the following would be appreciated:

1) How would i build py-smbus for the verdex-pro using the openembedded 
build system from the git repos (i2c-tools bitbake doesn't seem to build 
this)?
2) If I can't get py-smbus working I've been trying to access the 
/dev/i2c-0 device directly from python using fcntl.ioctl - getting the 
right struct together to read from a register on my i2c device has 
proven cumbersome - if anyone has successfully done this, pointers would 
be appreciated!
