We have some with sealed lead acid battery and circuit. Others with just a powered usb hub. We fit a small fan to the box and a heat sink to the gumstix to avoid overheating. Ambient air temp in summer here can easily get up to 40 - 45*C. For outdoor use we mount the abs case inside a metal case or ip65 rated case with plenty of ventilation. For pc's(not gumstix) have used air-conditioned roadside cases(similar to the ones for traffic lights). On a previous project we measured case air temp in summer hitting 64*C mid summer (roadside metal case with fan forced ventilation and two industrial computers).
