Sure does seem like your linux kernel image might not be what you think it is. My first guess would be something is wrong with the image you loaded onto the SD card. You are certain that it has been formatted properly and the proper images loaded onto it? Also, have you ever run that particular kernel image that you loaded onto it before? One way to check it might be to download a preconfigured kernel onto your sd card and see if THAT boots to eliminate other possibilities.
