Now we are talking!!! The mistral development board has a similar mechanism. That gives me a lot of comfort that I cam unbrick just about anything. So, does anyone where to get the app for this? Is the one from mistral sufficient? What format do the files need to be in to use this mechanism? So it's very difficult to get the overo into a situation where you can’t boot it. Booting from the SD card doesn't flash the nand. However, you can put everything needed to boot into Linux on the SD card. In Linux, you can flash the nand with the nand version of u-boot and the root fs if needed. See http://www.gumstix.net/Setup-and-Programming/view/Overo-Setup-and-Programming/Writing-images-to-onboard-nand/111.html Finally, if all else fails, the overo can be flashed over the serial connection with special tools. However, I've yet to see these tools. The garbage that is first printed when the overo is turned on is actually a preamble to start communication with the tool for flashing over the serial port. The code that handles the serial connection is in ROM and supposedly this makes the overo unbrickable. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [Gumstix-users] JTAG and recovering a board Date: Wed Oct 14 07:51:48 EDT 2009 From: Charlie Woloszynski To: "General mailing list for gumstix users." ; So how does the overo boot process know when to simply use the SD card for storage, etc vs using it to reflash the board with a new uboot & kernel? Or, how does the boot loader know to try to even boot from the SD card? Seems like the procedures described on the wiki assume that uboot is operational. What if I flash a bad uboot image? Thanks in advance. Charlie Sent from my iPhone On Oct 14, 2009, at 6:15 AM, "Benny B. How do you recover a board without it? Can you force the board to boot from SD?
