A partial answer to my question: a few methods are provided in the following link that could be applied in order to use ttyS2: http://www.makelinux.net/ldd3/chp-4-sect-2.shtml For our application, we need the use of 2 serial ports on the Overo. We can use ttyS0 without a problem, but wondered about how to use ttyS1 (configured for Bluetooth) or ttyS2 (by default configured for console output). 1. Taking the hint from Eric Coetzee's recent posting, I edited /etc/inittab to remove the high run-level console output to ttyS2. However, right from bootup output is still sent to ttyS2. When Overo starts booting, I can click on a key to get a prompt, and if I execute "printenv" I see that the following is defined in both the mmcargs and nandargs variables: console=ttyS2,115200n8 How can I redirect this low-level console output so it doesn't go to ttyS2? 2. An earlier posting discussed how to use ttyS1 (http://www.nabble.com/Using-UART-2-on-an-Overo-td22534595.html). However, the solution involved reconfiguring the kernel. Is any other solution available such that we don't need to recompile the kernel (that is, maybe there is just some config file we can edit)? |
