I received my stack of gumstix boards today and got to plugging them in together. I got a verdex, tweener, netwifimicroSD (EU), and a robostix, and a UK wallplug. Verdex + tweener works fine, the verdex feels slightly warmer than body temperature, if at all. Verdex + netwifimicroSD doesn't appear to be booting, but I have no way of knowing, as I thought the tweener was only incompatible with the robostix, but it physically is obstructed by the ethernet connector. In this configuration the verdex CPU itself gets hot. As in too hot to touch hot, within less than a minute. That doesn't seem right to me! I realise it's taking 5V rather than its optimal 4V, but I'd expect the voltage regulators to get hot rather than the CPU. The RAM and flash stay cool. I tried disconnecting the wifi module, with no heat usage change. I've not modified the default software build yet at all. Next I'm going to try getting the robostix and verdex to work together, as the robostix will give me access to the UART while the wifi board is connected, so I can see if the verdex is booting. I assume it's doing something, as the power LED on the wifi board illuminates, which it doesn't do when disconnected. However, I'm a bit confused over whether I should expect the robostix and verdex to work together without mucking about in uboot or some hardware traces. Stephen. |
