all, I played with 18bpp support ~1.5 yrs ago on a different pxa, trying to use x11>k. There are basically 2 problems with this approach: o you have to look at &adapt everything from fb to x11 to gtk (the drawing primitives of gdk rely on 12/32 bpp), this would go for any other pixel data passed down to x11 o memory bandwidth - this already is a bottleneck with 16bpp and larger resolutions (we do use VGA quite nicely - cf. http://pervasive.researchstudio.at/portal/node/39), but with 32bpp that you effectively have to use to store your pixels, you leave less for your apps... just my 2c, simon zyagon wrote: > it seems the newest version (4.4) will work nicely with 18bpp, but the > current 4.3 version works too, so you can already play with it. the bad > thing is that x11 doesn't work, it's not clear if it ever will, and most > apps use it.. well, some of them could be compiled to use directfb but if > you buy a lcd now, you won't do very much with it if you can't spend a lot > of time on it. > > > > > > Marq Rasmussen wrote: > >> "So is the limitation in the consoleLCD controller board?" >> >> I have been wondering this same question for a while.
