Hi James. I do as pointed out by others (more knowledgeable about gumstix than I). I found also running three root ssh sessions to the gumstix and using: 1> to monitor udev allocation via the command "udevmonitor --env" 2> to monitor the global log via the command "tail -f /var/log/messages" 3> to monitor modules to the kernel mod stack via a shell script as follows: # cat ./seeall.sh while (true) do { /bin/lsmod; /bin/sleep 3; /bin/busybox clear; } done; # which runs in a small xterm that updates the lsmod command for you continually, via "sh ./seeall.sh" assuming you have commented out all the /etc/module parameters before rebooting I do the following in another xterm: modprobe pcmcia modprobe ide-disk modprobe ide_generic modprobe nls_iso8859-1 modprobe nls_cp437 modprobe ide_cs each time watching what is going on in the other xterms. By this time, with everything loaded and correctly running you should be able to see in /dev a device file for hda1 as follows: brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 0 Dec 31 16:03 hda brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 1 Dec 31 16:03 hda1 Now, and only now can you mount the cf card: mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/fc and your away. Hope this assists you.
