You can actually set up u-boot to use a netconsole, where it'll send/ 
receive UDP packets over ethernet.  Won't work with usbnet since  
there's no u-boot usbnet driver, but it works great with the  
etherstix and other ethernet gumstix boards.  Docs are in the u-boot  
documentation directory.
