So, I've made a little progress with my robostix programming problem. I've got my gumstix running again and have been able to program the robostix with Dave's version of uisp. However, I still can't program with my external programmer. As before, I know my external programmer is good, as it programs other boards fine. So it would seem to be something to do with the interaction between my programmer and the robostix. The only thing that's really different between the robostix and my other board, in terms of the ISP port, is the '245 level converter -- I wonder if the level converter is loading the reset (or clock) line in a way that my programmer can't deal with ? Anwyay, I'll try some judiciously placed resistors to see if that makes any difference, but I thought I'd post to the list to see what people think. I also wonder if the Robostix and PonyProg thread could be related to this one ...
