OK, here is what i did: 1)reinstall and reformat the drive(i had other OS stuff that was not working right, like the updates) 2)right after the first boot, install libgpod 0.4.2.xxx.pm2 3)install gtkpod0.99.8 And now, i have gtkpod installed and working :) So, according to Lay Rainer at packman site, libgpod0.4.2.xxx.pm1 was the cause of the problems and, in fact, it looks like it was the cause of all my wierd problems. I did not have to install any other stuff. All i installed is libgpod0.4.2.xxx.pm2 and gtkpod0.99.8. Todd, may i send you some monies through paypal for your time and help?
