Richard, I agree that the gui is too small to justify a tree wiget, however I _personally_ prefer the selection box. I have not liked tabs ever. _I_ think it takes the whole "folder" concept a bit too far. We are not representing directories, or files. I also personally think that they look cheap. I prefer the selection box because all of the choices are right in one spot. Notice that I say personally a LOT. When all things being equal (functionality), both are suitable choices to make. It is a little easier to add functionality later on to the selection box. Tabs, if they start to move farther than the edge of the window, tend to get lost when the user looks at the program. That little arrow that tells you to move the tabs off to the left is one of those things that most people will ignore. With the selection box, it is easier to represent a greater number of entries vertically than horizontally. Look at the way Arabic characters are written. From the left to the right. That style makes it easier to stack the entries in a selection box than to sit the words in the tabs side by side. Japanese is different, but I don't think we are looking at internationalization yet. ;) Some kanji office programs put tabs on the bottom, with the selection title going from the bottom to the top. That allows them to side by side the characters better. To the best of my knowledge, tabbed programs are easier to maintain than the way it is setup right now. Please correct me if I am wrong. Anyone else have any thoughts? Darren P.S. Sorry Richard for taking this off list. Since the gnutella stats are to be dropped, I wanted to move the connection stats to the status bar and drop the whole left side. That way there would only be the tabs left. I though about putting the tabs to the left and not to the top (or make that switchable). I don't think the gui is large enough to justify a tree widget. The tree would be to small, don't you think? Why do you prefer the selection box?
