Because - (assumption) you have GStreamer and most plugins installed through packages for your distro - which probably compiled everything with a prefix /usr - (from your last mail) you configured gst-plugins so that it installs in /usr/local What distro are you using and why are there no packages provided by someone that have mad ? > How do I find out where gst-register thinks they are located at? gst-inspect mad will show you what actual path is being used.
