As reply to the 'panel applet' comment: when taking a look
at the mentioned HIG url the guidelines are pretty clear on
when to use "minimize-to-trayicon" or a panel applet.
Reflecting these guidelines onto gSTM leads me to the
conclusion a tray-icon is the preferred solution.
(unless ofcourse there are sane arguments for the applet
choice, however I can't see them at the moment. If you do,
don't hesitate to drop me a mail or comment here)

This feature is implemented in current code and will be available
in next upcoming release.
