I am happy to announce that Gnome Predict 0.3 has been released today. Gnome Predict is a real time satellite tracking and orbit prediction program written using the Gtk+/Gnome widgets. This release includes many new features and improvements. It is now possible to select a subset of the satellites that are being tracked and display the data in a list (as in the previous releases) or show their positions and ranges on a map. The list can be sorted in many ways by a single click on a column title and the map can be printed and saved as an image (very experimental though). The user can have many lists and maps open at the same time either in their own window or organized in a notebook. Once a list or map is created, it is stored for later reference and can be re-opened from the new shortcut bar. If you have used earlier versions og Gnome Predict you will notice the following changes: 1) The possibility to change the TLE file at runtime is now obsolete and has been removed (the engine tracks automatically a large number of satellites including the amateur, weather, communication and scientific satellites). 2) You can get detailed information about any upcoming pass not just the first one. 3) The track plot uses anti aliased graphics and looks much better. It can be saved and printed (experimental). 4) Your preferences/settings will be lost except from the QTH info :-( You can get Gnome Predict from the SoourceForge project page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/groundstationboth as source tarball and Mandrake RPMs. Precompiled packages for other distributions and architectures will be available soon.
