There are several items where we need some help. Alex and I have been swamped with support of STABLE and the development of the 1.1/1.2 branch. If you are interested and could help us out, please contact me. Below are a few areas that little to no programming experience. 1) i18n. Currently, we are using a very non-standard method of generating the template files for translation. I'd like to see us move to intltool instead of the home-grown scripts that I've written. If someone could get the build environment using intltool, it would be a big help. 2) Installation. The 1.1 installation needs some work. Newer versions of automake/autoconf seem to want to force python files under the python site-packages directory. I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do, since GRAMPS is a full blown application, with a lot of support files (images, XML files, glade files, etc.) If someone could come up with an installation proposal, and then adapt the configure/makefile structure, it would be greatly appreciated. 3) Collect a set of "tips", so we could provide a "tip of the day", similar to what the GIMP does. There are a lot of little features that GRAMPS has of which many people probably aren't aware. If you want to get learn a little python and gtk, it would be a nice project to take these tips a develop the "tip of the day" dialog. And as always, programming help is always appreciated. Just contact me or Alex. Don |
