[Gramps-users] Gramps 2.0.0 - first impressions

Hi Don,

I've just downloaded and fired up version 2.0.0 of Gramps and I've got
some initial minor comments:

So far, I've seen the following messages on the console when I started
up Gramps, without doing anything except acknowledging the initial
welcome dialog.  

    > gramps
    Date parser for None not available, using default
    Date displayer for None not available, using default
    Successfully imported preferences from the 1.0.x version.
    /usr/share/gramps/DbPrompter.py:185: GtkWarning: gtk_file_system_unix_get_folder: assertion `g_path_is_absolute (filename)' failed
      choose.set_current_folder(default_dir)

The one about "Date parser for None not ..." is a bit confusing.
Shouldn't these messages be coming up in a status window or pane in
the main gramps window?  If someone starts it up from the GUI, they
won't see this message at all.

I don't know if the DbPrompter.py:185 line means anything, I'll let
you know if it crashes or not.  It could be that the debian package
doesn't have the correct dependencies.


Edit Person:

- when entering a date in the birth field, it would make sense if
  hitting Tab brought you to the Birth Place: field, instead of to the
  Death Date: field.  I don't know if this is a simple glade change or
  not...
 

- Would it make sense to have a "plus" icon for adding a new child and
  relationship to a person?  Thanks to the tool tips, it's obvious
  which one to use, but not visually, especially since there is a
  'minus' icon for deleting people.

- Can the 'minus' icon be grayed out when no child is selected?  It
  works properly by not doing anything when it's hit and you don't
  have a child selected.  Actually, this could be extended to all the
  buttons on the page which aren't usable until you select someone.

- We've probably gone through this before, but would it be easier to
  navigate around if when you clicked on any person in the edit view,
  they became the selected person.  Then you wouldn't need the up/down
  arrows to move people around.  Adding in a releation ship box
  between the active person and the spouse/partner/live in person
  would then be easily done.  Just a thougth...

More comments when I get a chance to dive into this more.
