I thought I'd give a brief update on development roadmap. Version 0.9.5 was released a few weeks ago, and so far has seemed to be pretty stable. At this point, the goal is to reach a stable 1.0 release. The next release, which will be version 0.98.0, will be the stepping stone to 1.0. The major feature of 0.98 will be the move from lists to trees in the people view. This can be seen at http://donaldallingham.home.comcast.net/gramps/tree.png. The other goal of 0.98 is to round out the existing features and get rid of the some of the minor annoyances. Version 1.0 will won't add any new features to 0.98. Instead, it will fix any bugs that are found. Version 1.0 will then be maintained as the stable release. GRAMPS will follow the naming convention of many OSS programs. 1.1 will be the development version, and the next stable release will be 1.2. The primary goal of 1.1/1.2 will be to integrate a real database backend. This will allow GRAMPS to handle very large databases without a significant decrease in speed or increase in memory usage.=20 Over the next few weeks, I may be posting a survey to help with some of the trade offs as we move to forward.
