It isn't that GRAMPS is looking for the libraries in the wrong place, its that the libraries and python are not talking nicely to each other. I've had a similar problem with Fedora Core 2 building from source - it installs the modules as "ui", not "uimodule.so" or "ui.so". I might be able to get an RH8 machine up and running today.
