I think I've come up with something what will work pretty good for dates in the XML file. I liked the ISO concept, yet it has the flaw of requiring a year, which is not always available in genealogy. So, I have a slight modification. The format is of YYYY-MM-DD, but a single question mark is used as a placeholder for an unknown year or month. All stored dates use the gregorial calendar, but a display preference can be specified. # basic date <dateval start="2001-05-15"/> # date range <dateval start="2001-05-15" stop="2001-06-15"/> # unknown year <dateval start="?-05-15"/> # unknown month <dateval start="2001-?-15"/> # unknown day <dateval start="2001-05"/> # preferred calendar (1=julian, 2=hebrew, 3=french) <dateval start="2001-05-15" dpref="1"/> # text string <datestr val="Summer"/> -- Don Allingham dal...@us...
