You could try running python under gdb.

    bash> cd  Projects/gramps/src
    bash> gdb /usr/bin/python
    (gdb) set args gramps.py
    (gdb) run
    ...  play  with gramps until it crashes ...
    (gdb) bt
    (gdb) quit

It probably won't be pretty, but you should at least be able to get
the function call chain.
