Hi all. forgive this act of desperation, but after trying for n hours to find an answer in FTM's "help system", thought I'd ask y'all. It seems to me that if you "share" a chart in PDF format, all that really happens is that FTM wraps a PDF format around a bitmap dump of the chart. Sooo...you can't do anything with the chart, such as open it in Inkscape to rearrange groups so they aren't cut by page boundaries, for example. In times past, I've exported the database to Gramps, and used its myriad filters and formats to do what I wanted, which is save a chart in SVG format so that I could manually prettify groups on 2'x3' "pages" for printing on a roll-fed blueprint raster printer. Just being chatty here. This time, though, I'd like to incorporate thumbnail portraits laboriously scanned from ancient original photographs and paintings. Two questions: 1) Any suggestions on what magic I can do with PDF printing drivers, say, to get FTM to generate SVG files? Their help system is, (erm), not helping. 2) I haven't much luck yet with getting the thumbnails to import in to Gramps so I can print portraits for people in a chart. If possible, point me to where in the docs? Best regards, Chris Kinata |
