Source and citation attributes are an existing part of Gramps, and I have no idea about the percentage of users that actually use them now, as an extension of the GEDCOM fields. I wouldn't want to scare them away though, so I think there's an advantage to keep the list small, or even empty, as it is in 4.0. This is partly speaking for myself. I do most of my research on-line, using FS and a dozen local sites, that each have their own field names for all sorts of source/citation details. Creating and maintaining templates for each one of them is probably more work than learning to translate their fields to a generic master set. I am a bit undecided here. When I can customize a master template so that it contains all 22 attributes of the simple citations templates, and a few more to support fancy FS fields, I will probably never use the attribute tab again. And thinking about this a bit longer, I don't think that I ever used it at all. And now that the Source Template attribute is there, it's better for me to stay away anyway. But others may have values in there, and I don't think we should forbid editing for them, yet. regards, Enno |
