I know that OSS developers mostly expect to be able to "scratch their own itch". But this is a case where the community really needs us to team up on this major effort.I would hope that everyone on this list would be capable of getting an environment where they can run trunk and do development. Maybe if some of us don't want to upgrade our systems, we should make a virtual machine image available that has all the dependencies pre-installed. > > But I am not close minded. If we give the current trunk a fair chance (say, one month) and we still have too many problems, then we can consider alternative strategies (like a parallel development branch). > > Is is very easy to run virtualbox VM images in Ubuntu. Would anyone be willing to put together a VM image and some instructions on the Wiki? Personaly, I don't use anymore virtualbox. I use KVM and qemu. It works better than virtualbox. I create one VM this afternoon with ubuntu quantal quetzal. No need to generate all the stuff. trunk works as needed without one gcc compilation. > > Anyone have any other ideas of how to make this easier on us? > > ~Brian Serge |
