See the manual with person editor, name tab and name editor. It seems you want this person to appear with the married name (this is culture dependant), so you should enter the married name: Given: Fay Simian Family Name: Kong Type: Married Name Then open the name editor (edit button on person editor). This is a married name, so you can enter in the date dialog when this name is used, eg "after 1966". In the tab section, hit the attribute section and add the attribute 'Nickname', with value: Blondie. Also add a source if you have one that is specific for the name (otherwise a source on the person itself is sufficient). Save. In the person editor, click on the Names tab, and then click on the 'Add' button to add an alternative name. For this name use: Given: Fay Simian Family Name: Ray Type: Birth Again you can add the attribute Nickname. Using the context menu (right mouse click) you can indicate in the Names tab what is the official primary name in case you entered birth name first. About printing in reports KONG, Fay Simian "Blondie", (Ray), you need to go to Edit->Preferences, and select the Display tab. There you can select how names are formatted. Essentially, you can select whatever crazy scheme you like yourself. You can add new different name displays. The default one is used for all names, but in the name editor you can select for a specific person another display type (there is a bug in current version which will be fixed in next minor release). This is usefull when you have people from different cultures and you want different name formatting for those (eg slavic country with patronymics). Feel free to write a 'How do I' wiki page :-) http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Category:How_do_I... Anyway, in the upcoming version 3.3, Nickname will be a specific entry field on the name editor. Your nickname attribute will automatically be upgraded to this nickname field when you upgrade to 3.3 in the future.
