Yes, a getting started wizard would be a nice idea. Not too difficult to make also with gtk.Assistant. I think many people complain because of the many modal windows in the Gramps Workflow. Not many people are used to that. Docking all windows in a view would be a possibility, using a sort of breadcrumps to navigate. As Doug says, UI design is hard as it would take a lot of time to test this idea out, and 9 on 10 you need to say, no, this doesn't work, back to the drawing board. We cannot avoid the fact that we have a lot of data that can be entered, so this must be presented in some way. Many genea programs seem to choose for an interface you need to run as full screen with different tabs then. Gramps has taken the approach of many windows from the beginning.
