I can give you some tips if you start a translation for Gramps. I suppose you already read http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Translating_GRAMPS There is some methods according needs: some people only translate reports, others only interface but most translate all strings. So you can translate as coming, or to look at context and references. ex: #: ../src/plugins/.. is related to reports/tools/gramplets/quick report and Views #: ../src/Filters/.. will be .. labels on filter rules #: ../*.glade, /src/gui/.. is for interface etc ... Then you can try to re-use existing strings (or your own translation!). Interface will be more consistent or common words (Father, Mother, Children) might matching! Last gettext file editors support Translation Memory or advanced re-use function. I gave a try with "Irish system" translation available on my distribution (~ +180 strings!) Some minor variations on strings might be boring to translate. In this case, you may also want to use TM (if possible)! ex: narrative strings like : "He died on %(death_date)s in %(death_place)s." "He died on %(death_date)s in %(death_place)s at the age of %(age)d years." "He died on %(death_date)s in %(death_place)s at the age of %(age)d months." ... After having translated all strings for gender=male, store your translation as a new dictionary (translation base), enable minor variation (+/- 1 word), then run Translation Memory on a copy of your translation. All strings like: "She died on %(death_date)s in %(death_place)s." "She died on %(death_date)s in %(death_place)s at the age of %(age)d years." "She died on %(death_date)s in %(death_place)s at the age of %(age)d months." will propose the same translation as for male form but noted as fuzzy, so need a review.
