Done as stated above. > Then "sudo apt-get install gramps" to install the Gramps 2.2.3-1 > package. This is not the latest version and you won't find the > dependencies for the latest version available. when I type this in to console, I get an error message that it can not install. I also tried to installl from package mgr with no luck (it is not listed as a package I can install) I then went directly to the most recent version of GRAMPS (the web site) and downloaded the .deb file, trying that. I get a message that it can not install either, but when I reboot...GRAMPS 2.2.10 IS there and I am able to run it. It tries opening my file "laura"upon opening the GRAMPS and again, an error message: "Could not open file/user/laura This may be caused by improper installation of GRAMPS. Attempt to create unknown database backend class db_type=unknown application/x-gzip" I then try open/recent and it tells me it can not open "laura" CRC error...yet it does indeed open it! I am able to work with the file, I typed a test note, but then when I close GRAMPS and reopen the next time, I go through the same set of messages again. I would be able to take my Asuseee to the library and add notes, but I always get this message errors. BTW, I could not originally open "Laura" as an xml file .gramps or any other...I could only open the .deb file from my USB stick. When gramps closes it does save on closing, but I can not figure out what type (extension) of a file it's saving. I hope this makes sense to someone.
