I'm trying to finish up some calendar enhancements for 2.2 and 3.0. One problem I've been wrestling with is how to get names to nicely fit inside a small area for a day. I have some hacks in the calendar code, but they aren't general. If there were a name display format that had a short first name option, that would be the best solution, and others could use the short first name code as well. I've written such a name displayer: http://bugs.gramps-project.org/view.php?id=1256 This is a clean up of the name displayer code which also allows some more sophisticated patterns, internationalization, keywords (rather than % codes), initials, and a "common" name (which is either the call name, or the first part of firstname). The patch also adds other name display patterns that are impossible with the old code. This could also make the interface to a Custom Format name display easier, as you wouldn't need a "Format Name" because the pattern is the description (ie, "Surname, Given" is a valid pattern). Can someone look at that patch? Thanks! -Doug |
