Furthermore, the idea that you can do serious research with just looking for names on the internet is invalid. It would be much better to help digitalize all the archives, and then officially create links between those, instead of linking between family trees that some person you don't know made. If you want to do something now, see eg http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Special:ShowPedigree?pagetitle=Family:Erik_Magnusson_Prince_Of_and_Ingeborg_Haakonsdatter_Princess_Of_(1) Adding this type of pedigree to the GRAMPS website would be appreciated :-) Note that on this werelate site, you can upload information manually making links with GEDCOM. That is more interesting I think than linking between websites, as you can merge pages of people, and it has the benefit that you don't pay for the webspace. Adapting the Family Tree Explorer (http://www.werelate.org/wiki/WeRelate:About_Family_Tree_Explorer) to be able to upload gramps xml would be useful. But oh, guess what, I don't find sourcecode for that explorer to add functionality, and ohhh, it uses the latest flash, which naturally doesn't work on my AMD64 linux PC. Oh, no matter, back to GRAMPS. Benny ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program. |
