Cĺassifying as a bug, as this is the biggest annoyance with Android currently.

Might have to do with using background raster map which I've done lately (I'll probably make the in-memory cache much smaller as there's now file cache for tiles), but also has happened quite often without it.

Then there was comments on one tracker or forum about Android memory management issues which looked quite informative, should look that up.
