I’m trying to get GPSBabel running on my remote server and seem to be having a problem related to the library libusb-0.1.so.4. I’m using shared hosting by Bluehost. They are using: Apache version 2.2.14 (Unix) Architecture x86_64 Operating system Linux I have shell access. Bluehost did not install libusb-0.1.so.4 in /usr/local/lib Instead, they installed this library in /usr/lib64 ?Does GPSBabel require that the libusb-0.1.so.4 library be installed in /usr/local/lib instead of someplace else? I used this command to dump the default path cache to a file and then looked at the file: ldconfig -p > /home/mapping1/etc/ldconfig_dump The standard path cache includes this reference to the required library: libusb-0.1.so.4 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib64/libusb-0.1.so.4 In a shell session I navigated to my bin directory and tried this command to install the GPSBabel binary file so I could actually start using GPSBabel: rpm -ip gpsbabel-1.3.6-0.i386.rpm Here is the error message I received: error: Failed dependencies: libusb-0.1.so.4 is needed by gpsbabel-1.3.6-0.i386 Since the path to the required library is in the default cache that holds the library paths, I’m puzzled why GPSBabel was unable to find this library. Some googling turned up a post by Robert indicating I should set environmental variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /usr/local/lib. I did so and confirmed that the setting was sticky. I then gave the above rpm command again. However, I received the same error message about “Failed dependencies”. While this tip may work for others, I did not expect it to work for me since Bluehost did not install the subject library in /usr/local/lib. Then I tried setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /usr/lib64 (location of the required library) and tried the rpm command again. Rats, I got the same error message. Any ideas what I should try next? Is my only option to try to convince Bluehost to install the library a second time and put it in /usr/local/lib? _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail: Trusted email with Microsoft's powerful SPAM protection. http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/177141664/direct/01/ http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/177141664/direct/01/ |
