The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is conducting its first
comprehensive look, since 1978, at wolf taxonomy and conservation
status throughout the United States, and it's asking for public
comments on how to go forward.
The Fish and Wildlife Service proposes removing gray wolves throughout
the upper Midwest and in the eastern United States from the federal
endangered species list. The agency is also considering designating and
protecting a distinct population of wolves in the Pacific Northwest
that includes western Washington and Oregon, Northern California and
the Sierra Nevada.
Please speak up to voice your support for maintaining current
protections and for developing a national wolf recovery plan to ensure
that life-affirming wolf howls will be heard from the Olympic Peninsula
of Washington to the San Juan Mountains of Colorado to the Maine woods
-- and in many wild nooks and crannies elsewhere as well.
