Hi Justin, I'm thinking in a service where each user can create custom layers base on his personal data, so, the tiles are one part of the problem. From my point of view, the general maps can by cached using "GeoWebCache" or "Tile Cache" but the custom layers could be a problem. I'll try to give you an example. Suppose that the user create a path between two points in a road map and creates the shortest path between these point. Now add to the scenario another user that wants to create the same path. Can I cache the first path and reuse it for the second user? Probably you will think that GeoServer does not have support for create custom paths (I'm not sure if there is a support fo this), but I want to develop this kind of common functionalities in a near future and integrate them with GeoServer services. I tried to be brief but my idea is create custom services for users, such as, path finders, real time location using mobiles devices, etc, and all the services highly animated using SVG. The rol of Squid will be a proxy between GeoServer services and the browser and this provide a great way for scale the cache storage, analyze the trafic and other fun things. What do you think?
