Sounds like an OpenGL driver issue since it works fine remotely -could you try upgrading your Mesa(?) drivers? There's a slightly-later-than-1.8.1 2004 snapshot you can compile at: http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/L.Wood/software/SaVi/src/unreleased/ which does show different OpenGL behaviour than 1.8.1 (I've never gotten texturemapping to visibly work with this snapshot under Cygwin, unlike 1.8.1). If the forthcoming Redhat RPMs Rex promises are based on 1.8.1, I doubt much will change. We really need a Geomview 1.8.2 release.
