Hi Megan, I have updated my GPU Gems 2 technique to compute directional light information per surface element (instead of a single value) and do per pixel lighting. I also changed the sampling to be per face instead of per vertex to make it easy to vary the number of samples when desirable, and added support for specular properties. There is more info on our website: www.fantasylab.com. BTW I just found out that Pixar added my original technique to their Renderman implementation, and it was used by ILM for ambient occlusion, indirect lighting and subsurface scattering in the final render of Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest so it's still pretty up-to-date :) http://features.cgsociety.org/story_custom.php?story_id=3889 -mike -----Original Message----- From: gda...@li... I've been researching GI and related topics lately, with the stipulation that a pre-computed occlusion term is absolutely worthless to me. This tosses out SH and almost all of its variants, and leaves, seemingly, very little behind. I've found two notable techniques: the approach to GI mentioned in GPU Gems 2, which is vertex-based, and the Stalker ray-casting approach, which is interesting but ultimately impractical for environments not closely resembling the cornell box. What other techniques exist, that are completely real-time and require no precomputation / can function in a dynamic environment? The GPU Gems 2 approach is very, very appealing, except that it's vertex-dependent - and while I do have some ideas for how to remove that dependency, especially when using non-standard rendering styles, I'm curious what else might be out there. GPU Gems 2 was out in 2005, so any cutting-edge research on the subject that's come out since then? -- Megan Fox Idyllon, LLC http://www.shalinor.com/ http://www.idyllon.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
