Ok. So, the old style of creating texture pages of say, 256x256 until running out of memory, and then uploading smaller rects from sysmem when the need arises is slow? I thought it would be faster uploading a smaller rect to a texture. (This is the good old style) It also seems to cool, that you can have a fixed amount of video memory in use, and it's scalable if people have more video memory. Packing smaller textures into larger, is always a good call but it requires some knowledge of the scene. You have to group textures for surfaces close to each other. A bit more difficult, but could lead to some good speed improvements. I just have to let go of the "my engine should be general and able to handle all cases" thought I guess :) Odin |
