My main issue is that you place the (temporary) memory allocation call 
inside the loop. Fix that and I'll be much happier.

I think you current implementation needs significant, but not fundamental 
changes to achieve this. ie. much of the code will need changing but the 
overall structure will remain the same.

Of course I could also be missing something obvious...
