Your guess is most probably close to the truth, but the flags used are 0x102. I interpret that as O_RDWR|O_CREAT, surely that should be supported? And I do not see this -EINVAL coming from the FUSE log. To me it looks like FUSE is accepting the OPEN call, or? If OPEN throws a EINVAL is must be happening behind the scene somewhere.
