My MP101 sees that the server exists, but won't actually connect to it. I'm assuming that's part of the "not quite upnp" part, but just thought I'd drop a note that it did see one existed and attempted to connect to it.

It's surely because of the "not quite upnp compatible".
Can you please set the log output to the highest level and post the console output. It may help to find the part that does not work with the mp 101.
