There is an advantage to having a working cone shape rather than needing to reprogram that for a particular application. It so happens that in my PhD work I use GLUT spheres as a "standardised" shape, with the hope that others could possibly reproduce my timing results. http://www.nigels.com/research/ As CSG rendering algorithms tend to rely on correct front and back face culling, FreeGLUT needs these fixes for me to migrate from GLUT.
