OK.  Unless it is REALLY urgent that it get fixed, I would ask you to hold
off on submitting the rewrite until after the current release.  (I realize
that I broke that rule myself by submitting my own change, but it was just a
one-liner ... sorry for my lack of discipline.)

I've been testing freeglut with the Mesa demos. 
glutExtensionSupported() is broken.  In fact, looking at the code, I 
don't see how it could possibly work correctly.  I'm going to rewrite it.
