FreeGlut is great and I want to thank you guys for maintaining it. It has become a very useful foundation for my OpenGL artwork over the past five or six years. FreeGlut also made it possible for me to make a very smooth transition from Windows to Linux. I'm now happily committed to Linux Mint. I have recently done a clean up of my artwork system and basically forked 2.8.1 into a static library removing all the joystick and spaceball code that I have never used. This morning I further cleaned up the code by expunging the WINDOWS, OSX & SOLARIS porting options using a very handy open source utility called Coan, which I can recommend for such tasks. This is the very opposite of the goals of the FreeGlut project, I know, but the very essence of FreeGlut allows me to move forward without switching to SDL or building a fresh system from, say, glxgears. So this is both a thank you and a farewell. Clive. |
