I am trying to replace my linksys box with my linux box and use firestarter to configure the ip traffic. It looks really great. I like the interface and the way it finds hit problems and allows you to convert them to rules. Now for the problem. I need to test the firewall and make sure it works without connecting it to the net if possible. So the first thing I do is set up a network card with a static ip. I used 10.10.10.1 I have my internal network working fine at 192.168.1.x. The second I start the firewall my web no longer works. Probably just my wierd test config - not a problem. Now I create a mapping rule. 8080 to 192.168.1.4 8070. It appears to be fine in the interface. So I decide to test. I telnet to 192.168.1.4 8070 from the firewall. That works. Then I test 10.10.10.1 8080 from the firewall. This gets a connection refused. Is there any way to test this way or do I have to pop myself onto the internet? If I am on the internet can I test my rules from behind the firewall? - bfn - JAW |
