I'd forgotten that you were on 32-bit. This means that the problem is unlikely to be a 32/64 bit issue. Clearly also it's not specific to the VIA controllers (although I thought that was unlikely) since it's happening for TI as well. So here's where I think we're at. * Ubuntu 13.04 32 bit (Ilia, TI XIO2200A and VIA, Fireface-800) - apparent backwards movement of cycle timer triggers xrun * Ubuntu 13.04 (Sebastian Kraft, unknown host controller, Fireface-800) - apparent backwards movement of cycle timer triggers xrun - everything worked previously with the same hardware under Ubuntu 12.10 * Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit (Andreas Hehn, Via VT6306/7/8, Fireface-800) - apparent backwards movement of cycle timer triggers xrun - replacing 13.04's libraw1394 (compiled with gcc 4.7.3-ubuntu) with the one from 12.04 worked fine - compiling libraw1394 with gcc 4.6.3 makes things work * Slackware 14.0 32 bit (Jonathan Woithe, TI controller, FF400 and FF800) - everything works fine (libraw1394 compiled with gcc 4.7.1 or 4.7.3) Clearly there are two common threads in the systems which don't work: they're all using either FF800 or FF400 interfaces and they are all running Ubuntu 13.04. While I would not rule out a driver bug in our Fireface driver, the same driver works fine on Slackware 14.0. It also works on Ubuntu 13.04 if libraw1394 is replaced: either with the 12.04 package or one compiled with gcc 4.6.3. So perhaps there's something that the Fireface driver does which tickles a bug in libraw1394 that exists only when compiled in a specific environment. It would be great is someone else on the list running Ubuntu 13.04 with a different interface could comment on whether they experience problems. Off hand I don't recall any comments regarding Ubuntu 13.04 and other devices. In the meantime we await the result of Andreas's tests when compiling libraw1394 with an unpatched (non-Ubuntu) gcc 4.7.3. Regards jonathan |
